Pimsleur Approach Review And Reviews of Alternative Spanish Courses

At the request of several of my students, today I will write a Pimsleur Approach review which is commonly misspelled as “Pimsluer Spanish.” I will also compare it to some of the other popular Spanish courses. In my review, I will start out by giving you the pros and cons of Pimsleur Approach.
For starters, Pimsleur Approach is an all audio course. This in my opinion is a major plus. There are so many software based courses on the market that leave the user “chained” to her computer. You will not have that problem with Pimsleur Spanish since you can load it on your iPod or mp3 player and take it where ever you wish to go.
Another advantage of Pimsleur is that the course teaches you lots of phrases for traveling. You will learn how to order a beer and many other useful travel phrases.
So what are the disadvantages to using this approach to learn Spanish?
Well, the Spanish that you will learn is definitely outdated. You will learn many phrases that are not the Spanish words and phrases that are currently spoken in Latin America.
You will also learn very little vocabulary and after completing this course, you will not know enough Spanish to hold a basic conversation. You will know enough to say some very basic phrases but certainly not enough to hold a conversation.
So how does Pimsleur compare to some of the other Spanish courses on the market?
One course that many of my students like is Visual Link Spanish. Not only is the Visual link method ideal for the student who considers herself a visual learner, but Visual link also uses a method that allows the student to begin stringing together increasingly more complex sentences with every lesson.
Another course that my private students tend to like is Learning Spanish Like Crazy. According to my students, it is one of the only courses that teach authentic Latin American Spanish. From my observations, it has also helped my students to really improve their accents, and get rid of their American accents which can be very agitating to a native Spanish speaker. You can “test-drive” Learning Spanish Like Crazy by going to their web site and downloading the first two lessons in the series at no charge.
Another course that several my students have enjoyed is Synergy Spanish. What I like most about Synergy Spanish is that it has enabled several of my beginner students to quickly learn lots of new vocabulary words.
