And though I love my job and often find it rewarding, I also get quite frustrated from time to time, because I often have students who don’t take learning the language seriously. Often these students are taking Spanish courses to fulfill a requirement in a degree program and they are usually more focused on passing the courses instead of actually learning the language. Is there any way I can help change their attitudes towards learning a foreign language?

I’m a Canadian. I’m half Spanish and was a Spanish citizen but lost it a couple years ago. I was supposed to renew it when I was 21, but wasn’t informed to by the Spanish gov’t. I hear that Canadians and Americans can find work at bars/restaurants and paid cash.

I go down to the Mexican grocery and ask the lady there, She acts like she would help me in any way, very charming but I never get a phone call back, and there was supposed to be free spanish courses in the community center from the same teachers that teach English to the Mexican laborers,,ESL but they just cancelled the Spanish ones, Does this community in general have a double standard, they want all the help and benifits, but aren’t willing to help non Mexican people out, I know people are busy,,but certainly a poor person would need some extra money I am willing to spend,, I just get the feeling they are taught to be self sustaining and racist, please tell me Im wrong

I ask because where I work, there are a lot of customers that speak Spanish and sometimes very little English.

I have taken some Spanish courses in the past. But unfortunately, I have forgotten much of what I have learned over the years. I remember numbers, colors, clothing, some animals, and the weather. I believe “Do you need help?” is “Necesitas ayuda?” Correct? And when it is more than one person, it is “Necesitan ayuda?” Verdad?

I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me with these phrases. Thanks!

P.S. How are some of you able to get an accent mark over your letters?
?Ademas, Como se dice, “May I help you?” en Espanol? The more I think about it, this would probably be the more polite thing to ask.

In my school, the textbooks for Spanish courses are in Spain Spanish (Castilian, I believe), not in Mexican Spanish. And I’ve heard of some schools in Southern Mexico teaching British English (i.e. spelling “color” “colour”).

Why is this? Mexicans have a higher chance of traveling to the US than Britan, and students in my school have a higher chance of traveling to Mexico than Spain.
If it’s due to the fact that that’s where the language originated, then it’s geographically illogical to be doing that.
